Kindness Challenge

As part of the Health Promoting Schools, in Fourth and Fifth class we are doing a Kindness Challenge to see how quickly we can achieve 100 Acts of Kindness in our classroom.
At the back of the room we have a notice board and a chart with 100 squares on it.  Every time we or a teacher notices somebody in the class doing something kind we fill out a Kindness tag with their name on it and put it on our noticeboard.  Then Ms. Spillane puts a sticker in one of the boxes to check off the good deed.  When all of the boxes on the chart are filled we will have a party!  Since January so far we have achieved 48 acts of kindness!
Every Friday while we are completing the challenge, Ms Spillane crowns a King or Queen of Kindness.  So far our Kings and Queens of Kindness have been:
Lauren Kelleher in Fourth Class
Roisín Kierse in Fourth Class
Keelan Sheehan in Fifth Class
We hope that the rest of the school will see our efforts to be kind and that the kindness will spread!

Drumming Workshop

The children in all classes enjoyed a drumming workshop last Tuesday with Patrick Naughton as part of the Music curriculum. It was a wonderful hands on activity and each child had the use of a drum for the duration of the workshop. It was a great music making experience!

Safer Internet Day 2019

Tuesday, 5th February 2019 was designated Safer Internet Day in Ireland. To mark this day, all classes have been covering some lessons based on this theme and making use of the webwise.ie website. Our local community Gardaí James and Paul came to the  school on the day and they gave a very informative presentation to 4th, 5th and 6th classes on the dangers of the internet and the issue of cyberbullying.

10 @ 10

All classes have being making a big effort to drop everything and move. We try to have a running, dance or exercise break at least once a day. We are keeping a record of the amount of movement breaks we have each week and representing them on a bar chart.

Painting Time!

1st and 2nd Class have been exploring paint and colour in their classroom! Today they were learning about the Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky! Here are some pictures of the artists at work creating their own tributes to Kandinsky’s work ‘Concentric Circles’!

Aldi Play Rugby Competition

Cloughduv NS are delighted to be taking part in the Aldi Play Rugby competition. We received a huge poster of Paul O’ Connell yesterday and have it hanging in the corridor. There are 300 blank spaces on the poster.
Aldi are giving out Play Rugby stickers with every €30 spent in store. We hope to fill the poster with 300 stickers to be in with a chance of winning some of their fabulous prizes.
Each school that enters the competition receives a rugby pack with some rugby balls and water bottles. Some of the other prizes include a training session with Paul O’Connell and 4 x €2500 worth of vouchers for sports equipment. The ultimate prize is €50000 to develop school playing facilities.
We are asking all Aldi shoppers (parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and neighbours) to save your stickers and send them into school.
