Zumba Workshop!

On Monday, 12th February, all classes enjoyed a Zumba workshop in the school! Our two instructors Karina and Rosalia were super energetic and great fun! We all had a great time dancing to the music!

Fun in the Snow!

We have been having some real Winter weather over the past few days and on Friday morning we had enough snow in the school grounds to have a little bit of fun and build a snowman! Later in the day Ms. Linehan’s class created some lovely art work on the theme of  the snowman!

10 @ 10!

Mr. McElroy’s 3rd and 4th class children have been inspired by the TV show “Operation Transformation” to get involved with the 10@10 exercise initiative that hundreds of schools all over Ireland are taking part in! Well done to all!

Camogie Blitz

A Camogie Blitz was held recently in Cloughduv GAA Hall for 4th Class girls … check out Katie Donovan’s account of our wonderful success below!

On Tuesday 22nd January 2018, the 4th class girls played in an indoor camogie blitz. It was on in Cloughduv GAA hall. When we got there and saw all our opponents, we felt committed to doing our school proud.

We did a special warm up at the start which was running, stretches and lots more. Chelsey was in goal, Rachel and Katie in defence, Chloe and Orla in midfield and Emily and Alice in the forwards.

First of all we played Canovee. It was a tough match but we beat them 2-1. We were so excited.

Our next match was against Newcestown. The first goal was scored by Emily and Alice followed with another. At half time Mr McElroy gave us some tactics to use. Katie scored the next goal. Then Chloe scored our final goal. It finished 5-0 to us.

We were then in the final but we had to wait 30 minutes for it. After the 30 minutes had passed we did our warm up and lined out against Berrings. It was another tough match and with 50 seconds remaining, Chloe scored the only goal of the game. Everyone was so excited.

We are now into the county finals. CLOUGHDUV ABU!

‘Make a Wish Foundation’ Fundraiser

During the month of December, 3rd and 4th decided to raise money for a charity. We looked at many worthy charities but choose the “Make A Wish Foundation” as we could help children like us. We discussed various ways we could raise money and we decided on holding a colouring competition.

Firstly, each of us brought in something that we could give as a prize. Then we made advertisement posters and prepared the colouring sheets. When everything was ready, we went around from class to class telling them about our fundraiser and we distributed the colouring sheets. Each entry cost €1.

A few days later we collected them all again and got Miss Breen to judge them. She picked out her top 3 drawings from each class. At assembly we announced the winners from each class and gave them their prizes. We made a total of €204.50. WOW!

Mr Mc Elroy sent them the money and a few days later we received a letter from them saying thank you.

Cloughduv’s Fittest Kids!

Following on from ‘Ireland’s Fittest Family’ which screened on TV during the autumn of 2017, the children in 3rd and 4th classes were inspired to organise their own challenge based on the TV show. Here is an account of the competition by Grace Tuohy.

This year 3rd and 4th class participated in a Cloughduv’s Fittest Kid’s competition. The team names were Irish Rulers, Dabbers, Eliminators and Bolts. Twice a week we had team challenges. For example our first event was called ‘Killer Cones’ where you had to collect all the cones from around the yard and put them on a chair and then carry the chair to the finish line. If a cone fell off the chair, your team suffered a 5 second penalty. Each week a team was eliminated until we were left with two teams, the Bolts and the Irish Rulers. The final was a wheelbarrow race relay. It was fast, exciting and really close. In the end the Irish rulers won!!! They were presented with the cup! We all enjoyed Cloughduv’s Fittest Kids. It was brilliant!
