Sciath na Scol Camogie Final 2018

On Tuesday, 29th May, our girls camogie team played in the Sciath na Scol finals in Páirc Uí Rinn. They played Coachford in the final. The panel of players who are trained by Mr. McElroy and Mr. Verling are: Aoife, Aoibhín, Bríd, Grace, Caoimhe, Amy, Clodagh, Amie, Lauren, Taylor, Bláithín, Laura, Sarah and Sinead.

All classes from 1st – 6th travelled by bus to support the team.

Coachford opened the scoring with a point and then Cloughduv replied when Lauren scored a goal. The half time score was: Cloughduv 1-00   Coachford 0-01. In the second half, Aoife scored a point from play and followed it up with a point from a free and Coachford then replied with a point of their own. Then Aoife struck the net again with a great goal! The final score was: Cloughduv 2-02   Coachford 0-02. It was a tough and challenging match and even more so as it was played on the hottest day of the year so far!

Afterwards, the victorious team returned to the school by bus and received a Garda escort! They then went to the Cloughduv clubhouse and had a winners party! The ice cream van even turned up and everyone enjoyed a very well deserved 99!

Note: There are also some lovely photos from our game which were taken by a photographer on the day and they can be seen on the Sciath na Scol Chorcaí Facebook page.

Gardening Fun!

Children in Senior Infants and 1st Class along with their teacher Mrs. Landers have been doing lots of gardening over the past few weeks.

They have set some carrots, peas, onions and broadbeans which they hope to harvest in the Autumn.

They have also planted some petunias and other summer bedding plants around the school which will bloom over the coming weeks and months.

The children planted some sunflower seeds in pots also.

They will all be very busy for the next few weeks watering the plants, weeding the ground and hoping the sun will shine to help the plants grow!

Here are some photos taken when Ms. Purcell was helping with the planting!

Rugby Blitz

During the course of the school year, Santiago, a rugby coach from Argentina has provided rugby coaching to children in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes in our school.

Last week, the children in 2nd, 5th and 6th classes were invited to a rugby blitz in Bandon Rugby Club. There were over 10 schools in attendance on the day. All the children played four matches. Afterwards they received a wrist band to mark their participation in the blitz and everyone was treated to a hot dog also! The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Here are a few photographs from the day. Thanks to Ms. Spillane and Michelle for the photos.
