Happy Halloween!

We had great fun today as everyone dressed up in wonderful costumes for Halloween. The Parents Association organised a colouring competition for us and they also gave prizes for the scariest costumes! They also organised a movie day for us in the halla and gave us treats to eat! We had a great day! Check out all the amazing costumes we saw in school today!

Scholastic School Book Fair

This week we have run a Scholastic school book fair in the halla. All the children had the opportunity to go to the halla and see the books with their class teacher and then to purchase a book(s) they liked. The bookfair was also open in the morning and in the afternoon for parents. Thanks to the parents who helped out with the running of the fair and to everyone who supported a very successful book fair.

Tree Day 2018

On 4th October, to mark Tree Day 2018, we all went for a walk in the woods at Ryecourt. We had a lovely morning in the sunshine looking at the trees and all the different aspects of the woods as well as collecting plenty of fallen leaves and conkers. Check out our photos of the day!

Sciath na Scol Review

Our boys football team took part in the Sciath na Scol competition recently. Harry Murphy from 6th Class wrote this report on their campaign. Well done to all the boys on their performances throughout the competition.

Sciath na Scol Review

By: Harry Murphy, 6th Class

This year, we moved up a grade in the Sciath na Scol football competition after winning last year. Unfortunately we didn’t have the same joy in winning.

On Friday, 14th September, we played our first football match beating Kilbonane comfortably at home in Cloughduv. We got off to a very quick start getting a goal within the first five minutes. We kept a steady lead going into half time. We came back out after half time all guns blazing not wanting to lose our lead. We scored more and did not concede a single point.

On Friday, 21st September, our second match was on and it was against Ballingeary. After a drive down a narrow country road we arrived there. Ballingeary got off to a good start and kept their lead going into half time. We came back out and brought the match back level. They scored another two goals but we came back with a goal of our own but unfortunately it was too little, too late.

If we wanted to be in the semi final, we needed to win our next two matches. We beat Coolea comfortably, getting off to a very poor start but we started scoring a bit and built a lead that Coolea could not come back from.

Our final group game was against Gaelscoil Bandon in which we were the better team coming out on top by a nine point margin.

Our last two wins got us a place in the semi final. It was on the 9th October in Firmount. We travelled down and warmed up. Then the match started. Firmount scored two early goals but we clawed it back to a draw before half time but they got two quick goals again. In the second half things did not go our way. The result of the match was not what we wanted and it meant that we were out of the competition.

The whole squad fought hard in every match and our teachers Mr. McElroy and Mr. Verling were great coaches. The support from parents at every match was great and we hope to win the hurling instead!

West Muskerry Athletics Cross Country Event

On Wednesday 3rd October, 46 children represented the school at the West Muskerry Athletics Club Cross Country meeting in Macroom. All our athletics team represented the school so well and we are very proud of them. We had eight prize winners on the day which was a wonderful achievement for the children involved!

Corcaigh Abú!

On Friday, 28th September we were very lucky to have a visit from three All Ireland winning Cork camogie players. Aoife Murray and Briege Corkery from the All Ireland Senior Camogie winning team and past pupil Suzanne Bateman from the All Ireland Minor Camogie winning team brought the All Ireland cups to our school. The children all dressed up in red and white to celebrate these wonderful achievements by the Cork teams.
